Nabusimake – Colombian Indigenous Coffee

We're thrilled to bring you a very special Indigenous coffee: a washed Typica from the Arhuaco community of Nabusimake, high in Colombia's Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. With notes of vanilla, milk chocolate, fresh berries, and honey, this is a direct connection to one of the world's most remarkable Indigenous communities—and we can't wait for you to try it.

Meet Oliverio: Guardian of Culture and Coffee

Behind this extraordinary coffee is Oliverio, a native Ikun speaker and descendant of the Arhuaco Mamos (spiritual leaders). Oliverio studied International Trade and Business in Bogotá, using his education to protect and elevate his community.

He founded the Zey Zey Foundation to help Indigenous families trade their crops fairly, and was instrumental in establishing KZARMA, an Arhuaco-led association created under the guidance of the Mamos to organise and trade community-grown products.

Oliverio's work extends far beyond commerce. He shares Arhuaco culture with the world through talks on environmental protection, music composition, and by welcoming visitors into his community. His philosophy is simple yet profound: "Ka zaku chow nachwundy, ma nachun nuga kawa ni"—"if you respect Mother Earth, you are protecting yourself."

A Community Effort

Nabusimake Community coffee is lovingly grown and harvested by over 60 Arhuaco families, each tending just half a hectare of mountainside. They use only organic composts to nurture the soil and protect biodiversity, rejecting synthetic chemicals entirely.

Guided by time-honoured traditions, the Arhuaco align harvesting with lunar cycles, intercrop coffee with plantains, beans, and maize to prevent monoculture, and dry each batch with meticulous care.

In a world where coffee is increasingly industrialised, Nabusimake stands as a powerful reminder of what we stand to lose - and what we can still protect. This is heritage in every cup. This is respect for Mother Earth in action.
