Important - Alongside the annual service we must advise all wholesale partners of the Pressure System Safety Regulation (PSSR for short). It’s a legal requirement for any coffee machine owner to have the boiler (pressure vessel inside coffee machine) inspected by a competent person. As well as being a legal requirement under the Health and Safety Executive, a PSSR inspection is also an insurance requirement for most business insurers. Sometimes, insurance companies will send out their own inspectors. if this is the case, our technicians can assist the inspector disassemble and reassemble the coffee machine. To keep you compliant and up to date, Easy Jose engineers have been through accredited training and are certified to carry out PSSR tests through Coffee Safe, an external association that moderate pressure vessel inspections. If you would like to understand more about Pressure System Safety, please find a link to the Coffee Safe website or the Health and Safety Executive document.
PSSR Boiler Inspection - In other words, this is a safety test. Coffee machines draw large amounts of electricity and operate under significant pressure, therefore making them potentially dangerous. Because of this, coffee machine manufacturers have built in many safety devices to prevent any potential hazards. The PSSR inspection aims to test the key components of the pressure vessel at certain intervals to minimise any potential risk. Although rare, incidents with coffee machines can be very dangerous. This regulation received renewed emphasis after an incident in a Sainsbury cafe a few years ago.
Water Filter program - Water is arguably the most important ingredient in a cup of coffee, making up to 90% of espresso and even more for filter coffee. Not only does proper water filtration improve the taste of coffee, it also helps to prevent machine issues. It is estimated that 60 - 70% of coffee machine faults are due to limescale. This makes following a strict filter program an extremely important part of running a coffee machine. Water filters expire after a certain capacity of water (measured in litres) or 12 months, whichever comes first. During a preventative or annual service, the technician will check the filter and replace if required. We have recently started installing aqua meters on the filter heads to make it easier to monitor the capacity of the water filter. If you are interested in having one installed, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Grinder Burr Change - Depending on the amount of coffee being ground, grinder blades/burrs will need to be replaced every 6 - 12 months. As the cutting teeth on the burrs start to lose their sharpness, the coffee ends up being milled rather than cut evenly. This starts to produce lots of tiny pieces known as ‘fines’, which can negatively affect the taste of the coffee. Easy Jose offers a grinder burr change service, and if you think your grinder burrs need changing please get in touch. Two ways to recognise if the burrs need replacing are if:
1. You lose the ability to make small adjustments to grind texture, what will happen is it will jump from really fine to really course when trying to dial in.
2. You notice the amount of time it takes to grind coffee keeps going up, then it most likely means the burrs need replacing.
Emergency repairs service - Coffee machines get used repeatedly over long periods of time, so certain components can wear or go wrong. At Easy Jose we offer an emergency call out service. Firstly, we will try and solve your problem over the phone, and if that does not work, we will send a technician out ASAP. On the rare occasion that the machine cannot be repaired onsite, we can offer a loan machine whilst any work is carried out. We work on most makes and models of coffee machine and carry a good stock of parts. If you require a call out or just some free friendly advice, our technicians are always on hand to help. Big love from Aaron & Easy Jose Team.
